The mission of ICP is to consolidate and promote psychotherapy as a distinct and independent profession. We do this by promoting the widest provision of psychotherapy for the public, and encouraging high standards of training, practice, and ongoing education of our psychotherapists.
ICP is fully supportive of former Minister for Health Simon Harris,’ TD decision ‘…to proceed with the designation under the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005 of two distinct professions, counsellor and psychotherapist, each with its own register, under one registration board.’
ICP has made a significant submission to CORU as regards the establishment of a statutory registration process for psychotherapists in line with other professions and strongly advocates for best practice in this space. ICP will continue to engage with CORU throughout this process in representing the interests of its members.
While we work through this process, ICP continues to uphold the gold standard for the profession of psychotherapists in Ireland through our membership of the European Association for Psychotherapy. We are the National Awarding Organisation for the European Certificate of Psychotherapy (ECP). This is the standard used across Europe to ensure quality and excellence within the profession of Psychotherapy.
